May has been a busy month for the team here at Active Chartered Financial Planners – and it hasn’t all been about tax efficient pension planning or building a diversified investment strategy for clients.
Taking the Leap for The Teesside Charity
Laura Richmond of our client support team spent last Saturday morning taking in the sweeping views across Teesside and County Durham (from 14,000 feet!) when she took on the ultimate challenge (and a life-long personal dream) a tandem skydive – all in the name of charity.
“It’s something I have always wanted to do, so when the email came through from the Teesside Charity I felt like it was time” says Laura
“I couldn’t believe it when we got to 10,000 feet and we were still climbing. And there was no hesitation either. We got to 14,000 feet, the door opened and we were out – absolutely no chance I could change my mind!” says Laura (pictured below)

Active Chartered Financial Planners has long been a supporter of The Teesside Charity – becoming patrons in 2012 (back when it was The Middlesbrough and Teesside Philanthropic Foundation) and since then raising thousands of pounds and helping countless local people and other local charities.
“It was so peaceful – I just loved every second!” continues Laura “and I’m so happy I have raised over £650 for a brilliant local charity”
On Track for Charity
And the adrenaline didn’t stop there.
On Thursday 14th May, we hosted our fourth annual Charity Grand Prix at the iconic Teesside Autodrome in Middlesbrough – bringing together clients, colleagues, and friends for an afternoon of competitive (and slightly slippery!) fun.
Thirteen teams, each made up of three drivers, took to the 1.2km track for a gruelling 70-minute endurance race. With twin-engine 200cc karts and wet conditions, it made for some pretty slippy driving.
“We absolutely love this event!” says MD Karl Pemberton “Not only is it a chance to get together with some great people, but it’s brilliant fun and we raise lots of money for charity!”
“This year, we raised a fantastic £1,750 for three brilliant charities, bringing our total to £7,000 since the event began in 2022.”
Our podium winners this year (and their chosen beneficiaries) were:
- Guisborough’s Gresham and Gale Chartered Accountants, winning £1000 for The Great North Air Ambulance
- AV Dawson came in at second place and took home £500 for The Teesside Charity
- Waltons Business Advisers and Chartered Accountants came third and donated £250 to the Headlight Project
