Are your finances tax efficient?

It’s that time of year again – we are coming up to the end of the tax year which this year means the end of the day on 5th April 2015. That means you have a last chance to take advantage of the allowances provided to you by HMRC. Here is a quick rundown of some of the opportunities you might be able to access.

New Individual Savings Account

The allowance for the tax year 2014/15 is £15,000 of tax free savings in NISA accounts. This could be invested in cash or stocks & shares according to your objectives and risk profile. The allowances applies to individuals, so a married couple has a combined allowance of £30,000. Are you utilising yours?

Pension Contributions

Your allowance for tax free pension contributions in the tax year 2014/15 is £40,000. There is still time to make a lump sum contribution, if that is the right thing for you and your plan. And of course pension regulations are changing on April 6th. Keep an eye out on our website for more information about how this could effect you.

Capital Gains Tax

Individuals can make up to £11,000 of capital gains before paying tax. Many people don’t make use of this allowance, or use products and investments which make use of this facility. Why not talk to us about whether it is appropriate for you?

Children’s Savings

You can also save on your child’s behalf in various tax efficient ways. If your child holds a Child Trust Fund or Junior ISA then you can save up to £4000 on their behalf across the tax year which ends on April 5th 2015. There is also an option to create a Stakeholder Pension on your child’s behalf to which you can contribute £2808 net, which grows to £3600 including tax relief.

General Tax Planning

We are committed to working with our clients to ensure that your affairs are managed in a tax efficient manner. It might be that making use of some of the allowances above either individually, or jointly with your spouse or partner could make financial sense.
