25 years of change, but financial security still matters

As Active Chartered Financial Planners celebrates 25 years in business, we want to take a moment to say thank you to our clients. Some of you have been with us from the very beginning, while others have joined us more recently at different stages of your financial journey. No matter when our paths crossed, your trust, loyalty, and willingness to share your views have helped shape who we are today.

This is why we launched our first client survey of the year to listen, learn, and make sure we continue providing the support you need. We designed the survey to reflect on the past, present, and future, asking about the biggest financial challenges you have faced over the last 25 years, where you feel most secure today, and what is on your mind for the years ahead.

The results show that confidence has remained steady, with 61% of clients saying their outlook has not changed since last quarter. 24% feel less confident, while 15% feel more positive about their financial future.

Many of you mentioned concerns about inflation, taxation, and wider economic uncertainty, but what stood out most was the reassurance you feel in your own financial plans and long term strategy. Your confidence in the steps you have taken, and the support you receive, tells us that the work we do together really does make a difference.

When asked about the biggest financial challenges faced over the last 25 years, you told us:

  • Achieving financial security (42%)
  • Saving for retirement (28%)
  • Keeping up with inflation (15%)
  • Rising living costs (7%)
  • Buying property or raising finance (5%)

Many of you reflected on how financial stability means more than just building wealth. Some of you spoke about how your priorities have shifted, from making sure you are on the right track to ensuring your money continues to work for you in the long term. Others highlighted the importance of planning ahead for tax efficiency and protecting what you have built for the future.

When it comes to where Active has helped the most, nearly half of respondents (46%) said support with retirement planning has been invaluable. Many of you talked about the reassurance that comes from knowing your retirement plans are structured to allow you to maintain your lifestyle, no matter what happens in the wider economy.

Looking ahead, the biggest financial concern for the next 25 years is maintaining quality of life, with 60% of respondents citing this as their top priority. Other key concerns include:

  • Medical and care costs (16%)
  • Future tax increases (9%)
  • Supporting family members financially (8%)

These responses show that financial planning is not just about growing wealth, it is about ensuring it lasts and continues to support the life you want to live. Many of you are now thinking about how to preserve what you have built and how best to support future generations.

Karl Pemberton, managing director, said:

“As we celebrate 25 years of Active, we know that none of this would be possible without our clients. Your trust, loyalty, and willingness to share your thoughts with us mean so much. It is clear that financial security is just as important today as it was when we first started, but the way our clients think about it evolves over time. In the early stages, it is often about making sure they are on the right track, while later, the focus shifts to maintaining stability and making the most of what they have built.”

“The results of this survey reinforce why long-term planning is so important. While the economy and government policy will always change, having a clear financial strategy gives you control, confidence, and security, no matter what happens in the wider world.”

This was our first survey of the year, and we will continue to check in with you throughout 2025. Your views help us ensure we are providing the right support at every stage of your financial journey.

So once again, thank you. Whether you have been with us for 25 years or just a few months, we appreciate the trust you place in us.
